Palliative Medicine
Palliative medicine is the care to improve the quality of life of the patient with cancer or some other serious illness; it meets the needs of people with diseases that cause their health to deteriorate progressively.
Anyone, regardless of age or type and stage of cancer, can receive palliative care, whose goal is to alleviate the symptoms of cancer and the side effects of treating the disease. Palliative care specialists also take care of terminal patient care, focusing on providing the greatest possible comfort.
Palliative medicine addresses both the physical symptoms, as well as the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of the sick person and his family. Its main objective is to positively impact the quality of life of the patient.
The Metropolitano Cancer Center has a palliative medicine team that offers consultation to patients both inside the hospital and at home; providing all the medical and pharmacological support that the patient needs.
