About 1,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in Costa Rica (an incidence rate of 44 per 100,000); it is one of the most common cancers in the male population of the country, surpassed only by skin cancer. The good news is that prostate cancer has very high survival rates.
Depending on the case, prostate cancer can be treated through surgery or radiotherapy. In some cases, hormone therapy or chemotherapy may also be necessary.
The multidisciplinary team of the Cancer and Hematology Center analyzes each case to determine the best course of treatment for each patient.
