Advanced Cancer Program
In metastasis, cancer cells separate from the site where they initially formed (primary cancer), move through the vascular or lymphatic system, and form new tumors (metastatic tumors) in other parts of the body. These are cancers in an advanced stage whose treatment is different from that of a primary cancer. Our medical team develops treatment plans for these patients focused on reducing the rate at which the cancer grows and spreads throughout the body, and to alleviate the symptoms of the disease.
For patients with advanced disease, the Cancer and Hematology Center also offers genetic tests that sequence the tumor's DNA for genetic alterations that can be used to personalize the treatment.
The Metropolitano Hospital is the logistical operator for the Central American region of FoundationOne tests, designed to provide physicians with practical information that can guide treatment decisions for each patient, based on the genomic profile of their disease.
The results of the tests provide information on clinically significant alterations, possible target-specific therapies, available clinical studies, and quantitative markers of response for immunotherapy.
